Apple made two announcements concerning the Apple TV and iPad product lines. This announcement came as no surprise to either the industry or consumers. In this announcement Eddie Cue, head of internet services at Apple demonstrated the new functionality for the Apple TV and then Apple CEO Tim Cook discussed the new iPad.
The new Apple TV set top box still has the same look to it consumers have grown to know and love. Nothing outwardly has changed. The changes are all internal to the box itself and make all the difference. Now Apple TV is capable of showing 1080p movies and shows from the iTunes store, a newly designed interface has been added and the processor has been upgraded to a single A5 chip now just to name a few. The set top box will retail for $99 dollars US and has a planned release date of March 16, 2012.The iPad announcement brought with it an amazing array of upgrades. Going forward the new iPad simply referred to as ‘the new iPad’ will support a quadcore A5X processor for lightning fast speed to match the 4G LTE functionality from Verizon and AT&T. The display on the new iPad has been labelled ‘the retina’ display and it is stunning with over 3.1 million pixels, the largest pixel count of any mobile device on the market today. Utilizing all those beautiful display pixels is a 5 megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p video at 30 frames per second. Overall the new iPad has twice the processing speed of the iPad 2, more upgraded applications, and a better image.
Going forward Apple announced they would continue to keep the iPad 2 around but there would no longer be a 32GB or 64GB version of the iPad 2. If you’re interested in getting the new iPad it will run you $499 dollars US, which is the standard price point. You can pre-order your new iPad now if you have to ensure you get one or wait until the release date. Either way exciting new things are on the way from Apple this year.
